Socialism....Communism....what Pope JP II had to say....

Quote 1:

"My child, you must not have fear at speaking the truth.  It is for the salvation of souls and the recovery of your country. America the beautiful must not fall to communism, My child. America the beautiful shall not be sold into slavery.  Cast out the money changers in your government!  What manner of government is there that condones sin?  Abomination upon abomination--giving monies for the murder of children, giving monies for the murder of the elderly!  Your government, My child, has been infiltrated by men of sin." - Pope John Paul II, Our Lady of the Roses, September 13, 1975

Quote 2:
1991 encyclical Centesimus Annus by Pope John Paul II:
“In recent years the range of such intervention has vastly expanded, to the point of creating a new type of state, the so-called ‘Welfare State.’ This has happened in some countries in order to respond better to many needs and demands by remedying forms of poverty and deprivation unworthy of the human person. However, excesses and abuses, especially in recent years, have provoke very harsh criticisms of the Welfare State, dubbed the ‘Social Assistance State.’ Malfunctions and defects in the Social Assistance State are the result of an inadequate understanding of the tasks proper to the State. Here again the principle of subsidiarity must be respected: a community of a higher order should not interfere in the internal life of a community of a lower order, depriving the latter of its functions, but rather should support it in case of need and help to coordinate its activity with the activities of the rest of society, always with a view to the common good. “By intervening directly and depriving society of its responsibility, the Social Assistance State leads to a loss of human energies and an inordinate increase of public agencies, which are dominated more by bureaucratic thinking than by concern for serving their clients, and which are accompanied by an enormous increase in spending, In fact, it would appear that needs are best understood and satisfied by people who are closest to them who act as neighbors to those in need. It should be added that certain kinds of demands often call for a response which is not simply material but which is capable of perceiving the deeper human need.”

I can see it comin'.....

There is so much hitting us these days in the politico arena and when seeing the impact of the 'Act of God' - I was wondering: With the Financial Regulatory Reform bill in congress now.... "and 'the Senate bill would encourage bailouts by creating a $50 billion fund (out of fees charged to banks) essentially to dismantle companies that are so big their failure would endanger the economy" (quote taken from The NY Times, 4/15/10)

I see another slush fund coming! Not only that....but maybe another bailout? Why not? The airline industry is losing millions a day because of the volcano! I betcha....it's a comin'.....

On the road again....

We left Conover last Thursay. Heading slowly to Texas for the winter. We'll be at Table Rock State Park in MO for a week - after spending a week at Mark Twain Lake near Hannibal, MO. (Samuel Clemen's home town). We've volunteered to help out at Little Portion Monastery for their Advent Retreat - Ken will help cook, I'll be watching the children, ages 3 to 12. We should arrive Riviera, TX around December 8th or so. (God willing and the creek don't rise - it was spring of 2008 that we had to skip town quickly because of rising flood waters! In one day we were told to move our travel trailer 3 times - the last time was at 8 p.m. in the dark, as the dam's sirens were blaring letting us know the gates were going to open full force in a matter of minutes. How exciting it is to travel - so many stories!)

I'll be posting pics of our winter here - so keep posted. We'll be doing some kayaking, geocaching, biking, hiking, walking & birding. We've got all our toys along;-)

Happy trails! (oh, yeah, and we are faxing our senators about the health care bill - keeping politically active! - vote NO!!)

Our hermitage on wheels. It's a small home - 21', but we managed to pare down to the essentials (and maybe a few non-essentials!). We have been blessed with good health and good guardian angels since we began this adventure in June 2006. Thanks be to God for His Loving Kindness that we are able to travel and enjoy each other and our beautiful country...and Canada! We hope you enjoy our travels - and hopefully we'll see you on the way!
